Between 1948 and 1961, the McDonnell F2H Banshee, a single-seat jet fighter, was in service with the U.S. Navy, notably serving as the primary American fighter during the Korean War. Two years after the original Banshee was introduced, the USN created the F2H-2P, a reconnaissance version that featured a wider and longer nose for six cameras and a container holding flash cartridges for night photography. It was the Navy’s first jet-powered reconnaissance aircraft, ideal for its mission due to its ability to operate at a high speed and at altitudes of over 48,000 feet. A total of 89 F2H-2Ps were eventually built.
