Domestic Mobile Integrated Geospatial-Intelligence System
While providing humanitarian support in response to Hurricane Sandy in October 2012, National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency analysts used NGA’s Domestic Mobile Integrated Geospatial System, or DMIGS, a mobile, self-contained unit that provides GEOINT support to U.S. lead federal agencies responding to federal, state and local governments in times of domestic crises, natural disasters or special events.
Introduced in August 2006, NGA’s DMIGS fleet consists of two, 44-foot long vehicles plus a support vehicle that integrates GEOINT hardware and software with a robust communication system enabling NGA to deploy up to six analysts in support of operational requirements.
The fleet has provided significant support to numerous special and political events, including the Presidential Inauguration of 2008, as well as numerous U.S. natural disasters recovery operations in 2011, including the tornadoes in the South, Midwest flooding and Hurricane Irene.
